WOMANITY

WOMANITY

The quality of being a woman.

Womankind.

Womanhood.

Womanity has influenced our society, our civilization, the creation of human knowledge, wisdom, and now, the decision-making in the new globalized world.

Women are influential in science, arts, literature, technology, politics, sports, business…

THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN INFLUENTIAL.

Women have always transformed, shaped, defined, decided on every aspect of life in society, and even highlighted the importance and the presence of their male partners, UNDENIABLY.

Nevertheless, there is a great difference between being influential and being valued.

There is a greater difference between being influential and being acknowledged.

This distance becomes magnified when we talk about women.

In the past, their influence was less farreaching, restricted to their homes, families and male partners. Countless times they were valuable, significant and directioning, but hidden in anonymity.

Modern society took a big leap -with great effort and struggle by them – from totally supressing, hiding and denying this influence and value, TO BRINGING THEM UP TO THE EYES OF RECOGNITION, but not necessarily in a significant and meaningful way.

They keep on being part of a historically and institutionalized sexist culture with gender discrimination, in terms of opportunity, remuneration, security, freedom, motherhood, rights, facilities, respect, appreciation and acknowledgement.

The great majority does not have a chance of satisfying and fulfilling their highest aims and aspirations.

The ones who have, still need to choose between developing their authentic expression and potential OR BECOMING MASSIFIED, OBJECTIFIED, HYPERSEXUALIZED AND LOST IN VAIN OSTENTATION AND EMPTY CONSUMERISM.

It is an everyday challenge and what seems the most pernicious bias of this sexist tradition is that it becomes perpetrated by the womem themselves, through their own prejudices, the objectification they accept, feed, defend blindly and convey for the next generations through their children, grandchildren, through their culture, vote, social and civic expression.

They become the great fans and consumers of their own tragedy, humiliation and denial, without having it clear.

People, many times, have a moral barrier on objectifying women, but not on paying someone to do this, no matter if it is a man, if it is the woman who objectifies herself or if it is a profitable industry behind it.

And from a position of hidden and denied INFLUENCE they were moved to a position of overexposed and hyped IRRELEVANCE, which is very sad and worrying for our times, for humanity.

We have, as never before A CRISIS OF IDENTITY, A CRISIS OF WOMANITY, A CRISIS OF FEMININITY.

What do we know about womanity? What do we know about the sacred feminine?

We know nothing. We do not have a clue.

Venus of Willendorf – Jeff Koons – at The Ashmolean

“The role of women in the development of society is of utmost importance. In fact, it is the only thing that determines whether a society is strong and harmonious, or otherwise. Women are the backbone of society.”

Sri Ravi Shankar

When we talk about the sacred feminine we are not talking about religion

WE TALK ABOUT THE MYSTICAL AND THE MYTHICAL.

The female is supposed to make the link, the bridge, the connection between THE MATERIAL AND THE INVISIBLE and that’s why her power is feared.

WE ARE THE GATE BETWEEN WHAT IS KNOWN AND THE UNKNOWN.

In the history of humanity the men who have really listened and embraced their women GAINED ACCESS TO A SOURCE OF KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM THAT HAS ALLOWED THEM TO STEP AHEAD OF THEIR TIME, in science, in art, in life.

How is to be a woman?

Women are sensitive.
Women are irregular.
Women oscillate emotionally.

We have hormonal variations each month, which affect the mood, the disposition, the performance, the reactions.

This is the essence of the feminine.

The feminine is cyclic, as nature is cyclic.

This wider range of psychic oscillation enables our contact with the unknown, the intuitive and the mystic.

It is CHAOTIC because it is closer to the CREATIVE POTENTIAL.

WE GIVE BIRTH literally and metaphorically.

We are unpredictable.

Also, this wider range of variability makes us more RESILIENT to pain and to endure prolonged stress.

We are more delicate, more sensitive, BUT ALSO MORE FLEXIBLE AND RESILIENT, and how it could be different since it is the woman who endures the pain of giving birth and who is able to be always attentive and solicitous to her children no matter how tired she may be.

Our mind is also multitasking and we can perform many activities at the same time, although we are generally not able to focus on something for too long.

And it is far from explaining all the feminine beauty and complexity.

Screenshot_20190309-015936

All these characteristics are counterbalanced by the masculine aspects.

5162867-Laozi-Quote-All-things-carry-yin-and-embrace-yang-They-reach

The man who is confident, sure of himself does not need to prove he is stronger or better than any woman.

Actually, he comprehends that he IS SUPPORTIVE, STABLE, LINEAR, and then, his temperance, his presence, his reliability AMIDST HER CHAOS is what makes of him her STRENGTH AND FORTRESS.

The feminine and the masculine energies are complementary and they are also present within us.

1928911-Sigmund-Freud-Quote-In-human-beings-pure-masculinity-or-femininity

Each of us, regardless the gender we were born with or we assume in life, has a feminine and a masculine polarity.

Screenshot_20190309-024912

And when we talk about the alchemical marriage, we talk about the complementarity of the masculine and the feminine poles in us. It is a personal quest and journey of self-discovery and awareness.

As much as we are able to align these inversed polarities in ourselves, the feminine-masculine, the yin-yang, the shakti-shiva, more balance, integrality, and consciousness we achieve.

Screenshot_20190309-012005

We become more pervious and generous to our partner, we become present, because our internal conflict is pacified.

Someone who is not able to respect the sacred feminine externally certainly is not integrated with his or her feminine aspect inside.

Someone who sees the sacred masculine as a threaten externally certainly is not integrated with his or her masculine aspect inside.

And from this imbalance comes all sort of distress, inequality, conflict, disrespect, intolerance and distortion between the masculine and the feminine in our society.

Equality does not mean THE SAME,
Equality comes from the Latin term AEQUALIS, which is more a dynamic than an static concept.

And if you think of the verb, the action it implies – EQUALIZE; it certainly does not refer to turn into the same, BUT TO BRING INTO BALANCE.

“The alchemist saw the union of opposites under the symbol of the TREE, and it is therefore not surprising that the unconscious of present-day man, who no longer feels at home in his world and can base his existence neither on the past that is no more nor on the future that is yet to be, should hark back to the symbol of the cosmic tree rooted in this world and growing up to heaven – the tree that is also man/woman.

In the history of symbols this tree is described as the way of life itself, a growing into that which eternally is and does not change; which springs from the union of opposites and, by its eternal presence, also makes that union possible. It seems as if it were only through an experience of symbolic reality that humanity, vainly seeking her own existence and making a philosophy out of it, can find her way back to a world in which she is no longer a stranger.”

Carl Gustav Jung
