Empty Heart

Hearth shaped wave, Papohaku beach, Molokai Hawaii. Storms in the Bering sea pump winter swells onto the shores of Molokai.

Empty Heart

Sugar white grains of sand

Softly sifted through my hand

Flinging sand out towards the sea

Whirling winds blew all away

Raised my eyes into the blue

Distant whispers, closer grew

Waded out into the waves

Stood trembling and waiting

‘Cross miles and miles of endless sea

I thought I heard you call my name

You strode into my empty heart

Of vacant halls and silent pain

Your laughter filled up every room

Left smiles in every corner

Wish hushed tones and eager love

We bound our hearts together

One day I hope to touch your face

And look into your eyes

Until that time, I’ll only dream

Of emerald isles and you
